Subaru’s adventurous brand image and practical nature converge perfectly with the Forester 2020 SUV. It’s the same size as an Outback station wagon but offers a bit more clearance when towing your kayak down the coast is too much trouble. The cargo space is excellent and the simple interior design will speak to reasonable car buyers who are looking for something that is well done but not too flashy. There’s a reason Subaru sells a lot of these compact SUVs – they’re easy to love and hard to fault. We want the drive system to be a little more powerful and interactive behind the wheel, but for the majority of buyers, the forester’s four-cylinder engine, continuous variable automatic transmission (CVT), and standard four-wheel drive will be perfectly suited.

What’s new for 2020?

Forester is completely new for 2019, so Subaru has not made much of a change for 2020; however, there are a few new features that buyers may find interesting. The standard adaptive cruise control system features lane centering, a tire pressure display that displays the pressure in each tire, LED lights that illuminate the number plate on all models, and a rear-row reminder that alerts the driver to check the rear when exiting the vehicle if the rear door is opened before the start of the trip. High-end models are now standard with the content of last year’s All-Weather package — heated exterior mirrors, heated front seats, and windshield rain wiper blades — and travel models with LED led surround lights in the cargo area.

Price and which one to buy

– Basis: $25,505

– Premium: $28,405

– Sports: $30,005

– Limitations: $32,105

– Sightseeing: $35,605

While the Limited and Touring versions are much nicest, we think the Premium version offers the best combination of value and features. External upgrades — 17-inch wheels, rear wind wings, and rearview mirrors of the same body color — make it look nothing like a rental car, and the interior includes luxurious amenities such as panoramic sunroof windows, a 10-way power steering seat, reclining rear seats, on-board Wi-Fi hotspots, and a six-speaker audio system. Subaru has yet to announce a price for Forester 2020, so we’ve been estimating the price for now.

Engine, transmission, and performance

All Forester models were equipped with a 2.5-liter, 182-horsepower flat four-cylinder engine and could pull 1,500 pounds. The continuous variable automatic transmission (CVT) transmits the power of the engine to Subaru’s full-time four-wheel-drive system. At our test track, our Forester Touring 2019 test car needs 8.5 seconds to reach 60 miles per hour — not necessarily incredible performance, but it will meet the needs of most buyers. Those looking for more power should watch the Honda CR-V or the pressure-up versions of the Mazda CX-5 and Kia Sportage. For an SUV without any sporting purpose, Forester’s handling capabilities are competent. The ride is compliant and sophisticated, accurate driving and braking strong enough when stopping emergency.

Fuel economy and MPG in the real world

With EPA fuel economy ratings consistent with much of the compact-crossover segment, Forester will likely please buyers looking for efficiency. In our 200-mile highway fuel-economy test, our Forester Touring test car slipped the fuel economy rating on the 1 mpg highway, returning 32 mpg. However, that figure matches the results that CR-V Touring and Toyota RAV4 Adventure bring.

Furniture, Amenities, and Goods

Forester’s cabin is a straightforward, no-frills thing with a good driving position and great outward views. The interior of our Touring model is uniquely finished with caramel-colored leather on chairs, door panels, and dashes; The structural plastic decorations layered on the rest of the cabin look also of high quality, while the glossy black plastic on the central stack and the chrome and chrome-plated metal decorative details make things pretty good. The back seat is very spacious (there is no third-row option), and even adults should find the bench comfortable for road trips. We left 11 luggage suitcases behind the back seat and 23 with the back row folded. That’s more than either the CX-5 or RAV4 can muster, but the CR-V reaches up to 25 pieces of luggage with the back row sided.

Info and connections

All Forester models are standard with a touchscreen informing system that uses Subaru’s latest Starlink interface. The base, premium, and sporty models are standard with a 6.5-inch screen, but the larger 8.0-inch unit is optional on Sport and standard on Limited and Touring models. Two USB ports are provided for passengers sitting in front; two more are optional and are located on the back of the central dashboard, making it possible for passengers in the back to use their smartphones. Navigation is only available on Limited and Touring, but for those who decide to stick with a lower model, the likelihood of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto being both standard and able to provide sector-by-sector directions from a user’s device. Built-in Wi-Fi via 4G LTE data connection is standard on all but Forester base.

Driver assistance and safety features

Forester received a five-star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the top Safety Choice title from the Highway Safety Insurance Institute for 2019. All models are standard with Subaru’s EyeSight set with camera-based driving assistance features. Key safety features include:

– Standard automatic emergency braking

– Standard adapted cruise control

– Standard lane deviation warning with lane-keeping assistance

Warranty and Maintenance

The forester’s warranty is basic and the buyer will have to pay out-of-pocket for maintenance. Rivals such as Sportage and Hyundai Tucson — both of which offer a 10-year/ 100,000-mile transmission warranty — and the RAV4 — offer two years of free scheduled maintenance — offering more value here than Subaru.

– limited warranty covering 3 years or 36,000 miles

– Powertrain warranty covers 5 years or 60,000 miles

– No free scheduled maintenance

2020 Subaru Outback

2020 Subaru Outback Viraltrendcar

Highs

Off-road capability is higher than most wagons, spacious rear seats, equipped with modern technology.

Low

The option of the mediocre transmission system, stubborn transmission behavior, is not as different as its most beautiful predecessors.

Verdict

Outback has outstanding capabilities and is equipped with modern features.

Total quat

Subaru has nurtured a large number of adventurous and practical people, and the outback station wagon defines that culture with its innate certainty. With a comprehensive molt without altering its DNA, Outback 2020 continues to offer standard four-wheel drive, comfortable interiors, and spacious cargo space. A separate four-cylinder transmission is provided, but nothing particularly noticeable. The Subaru wagon also boasts spacious undercarriage and useful towing capabilities. Each model has a wide range of driver assistance features and most have a huge touchscreen with modern content. Outback 2020 is the best example of what makes Subaru unique.

What’s new for 2020?

The all-new Outback 2020 marks the sixth generation of economy scooters. Although Subaru took an evolution time approach versus a revolutionary approach, the end result still catered to brand fans. The latest outback matches its predecessor’s sturdy appearance and enhances cabins with modern technology and improved quality. A four-cylinder flat-cylinder engine (noted as the XT in decorative levels) is now offered alongside the standard engine; Turbo engines allow the Outback to have 3500 pounds of traction, 800 more than before. Subaru also increases the rear seat space and maximum cargo volume of the wagon.

Price and which one to buy

– Basis: $27,655

– Premium: $29,905

– Limitations: $34,455

– Onyx XT Version: $35,905

– Sightseeing: $38,355

We think the Premium model has the best addition of standard features and options for the price. Although it is only available with a standard 182-horsepower four-cylinder engine, upgrading to a 260-horsepower power-up engine will cost at least $6000. We don’t think the improved acceleration of the turbo and the extra traction of 800 pounds is worth the money. Instead, the Outback Premium comes standard with an 11.6-inch touchscreen, 4G LTE mobile broadcasting point, heated front seat, power-adjustable driver’s seat, more USB ports, and options not available on the base version. Among them, we will choose a more affordable package, which adds blind-spot monitoring, a hands-free powerlifting port, and a passive entrance with a button boot.

Engine, transmission, and performance

The Outback series has a pair of flat 4-cylinder engines: 2.5 liters of 182 horsepower is standard and a 2.4-liter 260 horsepower boost is optional. Both combined with continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) mimic the eight-level gearbox to minimize annoying drone engines. Of course, all Outbacks have standard four-wheel drive, which is Subaru’s main target (with the exception of the rear-wheel-drive BRZ sports coupe). The standard transmission system provides modest dynamics, but the Outback we tested had insignificant acceleration and slow transmission behavior. While the re-voltage version was significantly faster, it was hampered by the same registrant gearbox. However, most Outback owners are more concerned with vehicle quality and limited off-road capabilities. With an 8.7-inch roaring range and reliable four-wheel drive, the car can navigate inclement weather and even rutting roads. Similarly, its suspension provides an easy ride and its steering is accurate and easy to manage on the highway. However, both versions of the Outback lack sporty, which may surprise WRX fans by upgrading to a more practical wagon. The standard engine of the wagon can also pull 2700 pounds, while the voltage version can pull 3500.

Fuel economy and MPG in the real world

The EPA estimates the Outback 2020 standard will earn 26 mpg in the city and 33 on highways. The super-voltage version saw a significant drop in performance, with a rating of 23 mpg in the city and 30 highways. In contrast, its Legacy partner has a more economical transmission system. Its base engine is expected to earn 27/35 mpg in the city/highway and the super supersede option has an estimated 24/32 mpg in the city/highway. We tested an Outback with each of these engines on a 200-mile-long real-world fuel-efficient highway and they returned an identical 28 mpg. The sedan with four-cylinder voltage reached 34 mpg in the same test.

Furniture, Amenities, and Goods

Outback shares much of the interior with Legacy and both have comfortable accommodation and quality materials. Although Subaru’s cabin design may seem boring, it is handy and has a high seat height. In addition to the base model, every Outback has a two-zone climate control system, heated front seats, electric driver seats, and multiple USB ports. More advanced features such as a heating steering wheel, ventilated front seat, electric adjustable front passenger seat and heated rear seats are all available on more fancy levels of decoration. The Outback also has a spacious back row, providing an extra 1.4 inches of leg space compared to the previous generation. Its rear cargo area provides 33 cubic feet of space; in our test, it accommodated 11 luggage suitcases with raised rear seats and 23 flat-folding bags. Legacy has accepted 8 and 22 suitcases respectively in similar tests.

Info and connections

Base Outbacks have two stacked 7.0-inch touchscreens, but all others have large 11.6-inch vertical touchscreens. Along with large touch icons and fast response times, the large screen has a rotating knob and volume, as well as several physical buttons for climate settings, making it easier to use. While integrated navigation, Wi-Fi hotspots, and wireless charging are optional, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto integration is standard. Buyers who choose the most advanced Decorative Limited and Touring levels will receive Harman/Kardon audio system 12 speakers, 576 watts.

Driver assistance and safety features

Outback 2020 received a five-star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and it was named The Top + Safety Option by the Highway Safety Insurance Institute (IIHS). All Outback models are standard with the company’s EyeSight driver assistance technology. Key safety features include:

– Standard front collision warning and automatic emergency braking

– Standard adapted cruise control with lane-keeping assistance

– Blind-spot monitoring and rear crossing traffic warning are available

Warranty and Maintenance

Subaru offers a limited warranty and competitive though insignificant power transmission system. It also does not include any free scheduled maintenance such as Buick Regal TourX.

– limited warranty covering 3 years or 36,000 miles

– Powertrain warranty covers 5 years or 60,000 miles

– No free scheduled maintenance
