Although the new Peugeot 308 will not feature a high-performance version, it will feature a third body style. The Leon brand is developing a crossover vehicle with a more sporty appearance. The ideal ingredients for a cocktail that will directly contrast with the Renault Arkana. In the first half of 2022, a Peugeot 308 Cross is set to make its debut.
The León brand’s plan for this new generation of Peugeot 308 is more than audacious. It’s not just about a more modern style and a higher-quality interior, as well as a more balanced engine lineup. It’s about making a tailored deal, a response to the needs or desires of today’s crossover customers.
This is the special focus area for the Peugeot 308’s third model, internally dubbed the P54. A hybrid with a more sporty look and a significantly higher ground clearance than a compact but not as much as a 3008. A transitional product, such as this recreation, will allow Peugeot to join the bandwagon of compact crossovers that go beyond a few basic plastics adhered to the wheel arches.
The third body of the Peugeot 308 Cross will arrive in 2022
The future Peugeot 308 Cross will be a rival to the Renault Arkana, among others, which means that the front end will remain unchanged and only the rear will have its own identity, based on the Coupe style but with a longer rear. Within, the dashboard will retain the same design theme, with the latest generation of the ‘i-cockpit’ instrument cluster and a new 10-inch touchscreen in the center console.
Additionally, the French brand will describe the mechanical options for this special edition, with the electric version being the only one that will be excluded. The engine lineup will be limited to electrified gasoline engines with 48-volt technology built into the eight-speed automatic transmission and 180- and 225-horsepower plug-in hybrids without diesel.
What makes this product truly mysterious is its trade name. Given that the model development’s internal classification means that it is an SUV, logic suggests that the commercial name would include four digits, with the middle two being zero. However, it is likely that the company will introduce a new name for this model, which will be revealed in a year. It is scheduled for presentation in spring 2022 and commercialization in the second semester of 2023 as a 2023 platform.
